By now everyone and their grandmother has heard about Marky Mark’s ludicrous remarks in a Men’s Journal interview, claiming that he could have stopped 9/11 terrorists from crashing Flight 93 into the World Trade Center.
Mark Wahlberg was originally scheduled to be on Flight 93 but ended up taking a flight out the previous week. Of the situation Wahlberg said, “If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”
Alright, this is a tough one for me. Mark Wahlberg (along with Leo DiCaprio) is one of those people who could do little wrong in my eyes, or say anything to make me think differently of him. He could tell me he was going to knock of my entire family and I’d assume they deserved it. So, safe to say, this remark has not made me think any differently of him…but come on, bro. You could’ve prevented 9/11 attacks? If this is so, Mr. Wahlberg, something tells me you should be in a line of business far more serious than making movies.
A common backlash to his claim has been, “who would fly the plane, you idiot?” In Marky Mark’s defense, I think he was alluding to a scenario in which there would’ve been no lives lost, except for the attackers, and the pilots would’ve landed the plane safely. Duh.
