MIMS is a New York rapper who was raised in Manhattan as Shawn Tapiwa Mims. Although he suffered the loss of both his parents as a teenager, MIMS’ grandmother and his love for music kept him on a path to success. MIMS first experienced success in Canada after appearing on the ‘Private Party Collector’s Edition Vol. 2’ disc in 2001. Within the next couple of years, he serendipitously met the man who would help him make it big in the States – at a wedding. He and his new friend DJ Blackout of Blackout Movement soon began working together which ultimately led to MIMS’ discovery by Method Man. The rest is history and MIMS first solo album was released in early 2007. Soon thereafter he rocked the Cancun Spring Break scene as one of the hottest acts on MTV’s Spring Break ’07 line-up.
