Steve-O
Born Steven Glover, his fans know him as Steve-O from MTV's hit show ‘Jackass.’ At the age of 15, Steve-O stole a video camera from his father and began producing skateboarding videos. When he graduated from high school in England, he tried a year at the University of Miami, but quickly realized college life was not for him. Instead, he tried his luck as a stuntman and continued to film himself doing anything and everything. Still unsuccessful, Steve-O went to Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College and subsequently worked on Royal Caribbean Cruise lines and as a clown with the Hanneford Family Circus. All the while, he continued to create his own personal films, and sent them to anyone he thought would be interested. Finally, when they landed in the hands of Jeff Tremiane, creator/director/producer of the ‘Jackass' series, Steve-O hit it big. He has continued to work with the rest of the ‘Jackass’ crew as well as produce his own material and tour the United States. He’s made appearances on Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, and Howard Stern’s shows.
Career
After his stint at the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Clown College, Steve-O failed to gain one of the 10 spots given to become a clown in the circus. He then went home to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he continued to film himself doing a variety of dangerous acts to submit to skateboard companies. However, his relationship with Big Brother Magazine began in 1997 after he was posted in an article from catching his face on fire while Big Brother was in Albuquerque. After moving to Florida in 1999 for a job on Royal Carribean Cruise Lines, in just six-months Steve-O was offered a job at the Hanneford Family Circus as a clown. He was later featured in several more issues of Big Brother Magazine as well as filming a section for the Big Brother video “Boob”. Steve-O was soon involved with Jackass, where he made his fame.
Jackass
Steve-O was a main character in the MTV series Jackass. He is well known for this American television series, which originally aired from 2000 to 2002. Steve-O, along with cast members Johnny Knoxville and Bam Margera created the plot of the show, which showed the cast members and guest stars performing various dangerous, ridiculous, self-injuring stunts and pranks. On one episode, Steve-O was at the Abyss Night club in Los Angeles, California when he performed a stunt called “The Butterfly,” which included Steve-O stapling his scrotum to his leg. This, in public offense led to Steve-O’s arrest with a $150,000 dollar bail. Steve-O and the other cast members where all arrested at one point or another for doing some of these dangerous stunts and charged under various accounts. The show was criticized for the nature of the stunts being influential to young people when two high school students decided to create their own Jackass spin off at home by lighting themselves on fire. This brought the cast of Jackass along with MTV to court, but only helped the ratings of the show, which led to full movie productions: Jackass the Movie, Jackass 2, and Jackass 2.5.
Wildboyz
Wildboyz, a spin-off and follow-up to Jackass, was a reality show made for MTV, which debuted in 2003, but was later moved in its third season to MTV2. The stars of this show were former Jackass cast members Steve-O and Chris Pontious. The plot of the show was to have the two stars in various, exotic environments all over the world, where they would interact with very dangerous animals and often get hurt due to the lack of proper training. The humor of the show got it to its fourth season, which made its debut in 2006 as part of Sic’Em Friday’s on MTV2.
Dr. Steve-O
Dr. Steve-O is Steve-O’s third show with a slightly deeper format than his past with Jackass and Wildboyz. This is a reality based, comedic show that makes “wussies into men.” This show featured on the USA Network, receives tapes from men who feel that they have to overcome their “fears” for comedic value. Steve-O plays Dr. Steve-O, and diagnoses these self-proclaimed patients. He proceeds to try to “cure” their fears by performing certain procedures on them, usually dangerous, painful stunts. When Dr. Steve-O feels that they have overcome their fears, he then staples a “Dr. Steve-O approved bill” to them. The show first premiered on the network in 2007 and it is rumored to begin filming a second season in 2008.
