Break Smart Program

Our Safety Pledge

Know Your Limits. Use Your Head!

We want our travelers to make responsible decisions during their travel experience. Our BreakSmart program offers tips and guidelines for staying safe while traveling.

BreakSmart is designed to educate our travelers to make smart decisions before, during, and after their travel experience. BreakSmart guidelines are provided before travel and are reiterated during their StudentCity Welcome Orientation and in arrival packets received on site.

Buddy System

  • Hang out in groups and ALWAYS use the buddy system
  • Never allow a friend to leave a party alone
  • Always travel with a buddy in a taxi, bus, or on public transportation
  • If you lose your buddy please find a StudentCity team member to escort you home

Wristbands

  • Do not remove your StudentCity or hotel wristband, they are used for identification purposes
  • Your StudentCity wristband will have a 24-hour emergency cell phone number printed on it, which travelers may call at ANY TIME in the case of an emergency

Scheduled/Chaperoned Events

  • Attend only StudentCity events. StudentCity team members are at each event to ensure everyone is having a great time, partying responsibly, receiving the service they deserve, and overseeing any issues that may arise
  • Read through the Destination Guide you will receive at your Welcome Orientation; it includes StudentCity hospitality hours, phone numbers, and locations to be able to contact them at all times during your trip

Drink Responsibly

  • Drink in moderation if and when you choose to drink
  • Seek medical attention if you begin to feel unwell
  • Know your limits
  • Note the time and amount of drinks per hour you are consuming
  • Three drinks over the span of two hours is not the same as three drinks in one hour
  • Do not accept drinks from strangers
  • Do not carry open containers of alcohol in the street

Drugs

  • Don’t use, sell, or buy drugs
  • Drugs are illegal in each of our destinations and laws are strictly enforced

Beaches/Pools

  • Do not go on the beaches or swim at night
  • No diving in the pools
  • Follow all rules posted at the pool or on the beach
  • Swim at your own risk when a lifeguard is not on duty
  • Follow any flags or posting markers on the beach that are used to warn you about dangerous tides, harsh water conditions, or any other warning the beach patrol feels in necessary

Transportation

  • Check with the StudentCity Team for guidance on the cheapest, easiest, and most reliable forms of transportation in your specific destination
  • Use only licensed taxis
  • Negotiate the fare before entering the taxi and always travel with a buddy

Mopeds

  • Do not rent motorized vehicles

Travel Safety Tips

  • Be respectful to all citizens of the country you are visiting
  • Drink bottled water
  • Wear sunblock when in the sun
  • Tip 15% on all bills
